Rockstar bites back over working condition accusations 16 January 2010 at 4:00 am by Admin

Rockstar has come under a hail of fire recently ever since the first “Rockstar Spouse” statement accusing the company of terrible working conditions. The Grand Theft Auto developer is also said to have crippled Red Dead Redemption thanks to bad management, and one employee even described the company as an overbearing “Eye of Sauron.”

Rockstar is yet to offer an official public response, but the company’s Web site has bit back in a rather snarky fashion, producing a wallpaper that actually shows Rockstar as an Eye of Sauron, casting its oppressive judgement down upon all who fall under its gaze. Very cute.

The response is quite amusing, but Rockstar is going to have to address this issue soon. The bad press simply hasn’t stopped, and problems are resolved, they’ll likely continue for a long time.

+ People are saying that the guys at Rockstar NYC are jerks By Admin 12 January 2010 at 4:30 pm and have No Comments

People often hate their bosses. That’s why I’m not particularly surprised to hear that the team at Rockstar San Diego (responsible for Midnight Club: Los Angeles) had a rough time under the rule of Rockstar NYC (Headquarters for Rockstar Games). Some staff from the studio are saying that “Anyone from the New York office is feared, because people in the San Diego office know that they are unstable and needy … in other words, if a comment comes from a person from New York, it’s a mandate that needs to be immediately addressed regardless of previous priorities.” Another anonymous San Diego staffer says “I can support what those accounts are saying, where you’re working long hours with last minute demands and no direction“.

Pro tip for Rockstar NYC — Mean-spirited, directionless games will make you money, but running a mean-spirited, directionless workplace will only lead to pissed off employees. Keep the unpredictable, self-centered, scaremongering shenanigans in the videogame world. Maybe then you’ll be able to get a team together that can create a non-GTA series that people actually care about.

+ Meet Gay Tony in the latest ‘Ballad of’ teaser trailer By Admin 08 September 2009 at 5:02 pm and have No Comments

Meet Tony Prince. He goes by the nickname “Gay Tony.” He has a few teeny tiny problems with debtors and enjoys the nightlife. While that doesn’t exactly sound like blockbuster Grand Theft Auto IV expansion material, it will probably end up being so.

Rockstar North just released a short character trailer for "The Ballad of Gay Tony," the upcoming DLC for GTA IV. Hit the break to check it out, but beware — it’s wicked short.

As a sidenote, here: Rockstar North must love afternoons like these. We imagine the marketing folk kicking back in their office chairs and watching the Internet explode.

+ Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Beaterator come to iPhone By Admin 31 August 2009 at 6:10 am and have No Comments

Two new Rockstar Games titles for your iPhone or iPod Touch have been announced today. I’m game for both.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, the game you currently know as a Nintendo DS title (and later this year as a PSP download), has just been announced for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s coming this fall, totally retuned to work with the iPhone’s controls. Liberty City in your phone. That should be pretty kick-ass. No price or other details were given.

Also coming to the platform is Beaterator. The title, a collaboration between producer Timbaland and Rockstar Games, lets you create beats and songs on-the-go, with your phone. It comes from the same developers that put together Chinatown Wars, actually. It contains thousands of loops and sounds that you can put together to make your own jams. This is also dropping in the fall on the iTunes App Store, and again, no price was given.
