The PlayStation Network show The Tester is gearing up for its second season, and the full 12-gamer cast has been revealed. Yay? I encourage you all to read up on the contestants’ bios, because they are equal parts goofy and absurd.
Jonathan Ross, being his usual sassy self, wanted me to point out that one of the cast members goes by the name “Gaymer.” So, that happened. If Microsoft had its own show to recruit game testers, he likely wouldn’t be allowed on it.
If nothing else, you absolutely need to read the comments on the PlayStation.Blog post. They’re golden.

Well, in someone’s fantasies, anyway. We caught this hilarious trailer over at Shogun Gamer, which is most certainly not for a real film — the full version was screened at Anime Evolution earlier this year — but is great to watch, nonetheless. It did remind us that maybe a lot of people missed it the first time, so hey, if you did, go back and watch it now.
Speaking of Pokemon, if you find yourelf wishing this had been real, and that sometimes you do want a more human, realistic version of the famous cartoon, perhaps you need to do some readin’. That link is so, so, so NSFW it’s not even funny, but hey, it’s entertaining. And if you fap to it, don’t blame me. I didn’t write it!
We’ve given very high marks to both the entries in the Valkyria Chronicles franchise in the past. Considering that the first game had some sales issues before it got a price cut, we were a bit worried for a while there — but it looks like now everything is smooth sailing. Especially since Sega’s Tokyo Game Show page has just confirmed that Valkyria Chronicles 3 is going to be debuted at the big event!
Andria Sang reports that “game presentation and voice actor announcement” is on the schedule for the title, so we may have some more news for you on that tomorrow from our live TGS coverage. All I know is, I want Valkyria Chronicles games to keep coming out as long as they stay as high quality as the first few entries were, so I am thrilled. What do you think?
See that boring-looking mass of squiggles up there in the header image? If you happen to be a PlayStation 3 owner that got all huffy when Sony decided to excise backwards compatibility from the PS3 (I certainly did once my launch-model died), what it might represent may well be much more interesting!
Put simply, it’s a patent diagram for what looks to be an external device designed to emulate the hardware functions of the original PlayStation 2. It connects to an unnamed “Next Generation Games Machine”, and contains nearly all of the hardware present in the original PS2, sans disc drive.
What could it all mean?! Well, we know what it could mean: Sony might be selling a box that you can plug into a PS3 that will play your old PS2 games! If you want more details, some people at Eurogamer who are smarter than me speculated on the device’s potential capabilities here.
We’ll keep this in the “rumor” file for now, as it’s merely a patent application, and patents don’t necessarily turn into actual products. But I’ll tell you this: I’d love one of these things if they come out for the right price. I hate having to conduct arcane necromantic rituals on my old PS2 just to get in another session of Sakura Wars.

First of all, don’t do it. I’m unsure of what it is you’re playing on doing, but seriously, don’t do it. Blizzard has sent out a little public notice to remind us all that cheating isn’t cool — especially when it comes to the high-stakes world of competitive StarCraft play.
“If a StarCraft II player is found to be cheating or using hacks or modifications in any form, then as outlined in our end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play StarCraft II with his or her account.”
We wouldn’t want that to happen, now would we? Blizzard continues: “We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future.” You’ve been warned.

With TGS nearly upon us, news this week has been rather slow; I’m sure you’ve noticed. As such, I’m going to call it right now: Derek Yu’s comic about Spelunky Man and Meat Boy is the best thing that’s going to happen today.
They are made out of clay, guys. Guys! Clay! Forget about yarn, clay is where it’s at. At this point, you can probably just go back to bed. You won’t be missing much, honest.

The latest trailer for game-of-the-year contender Enslaved: Odyssey to the West talks about the teamwork between Monkey and Trip. Detailing how the two characters play off each other, Ninja Theory tells us exactly what this duo can do, and how players will need to use their combined skills to succeed.
Everybody on Destructoid has had nothing but praise for this game, and from what I played, the praise is well deserved. This game looks set to be 2010’s big new IP that kicks everybody’s ass, like Borderlands or BioShock before it. I really am struggling to wait for the full game to arrive!
Another upcoming PSP game, another upcoming PSP bundle. Invizimals is the latest vaguely important PSP game to get its own special console package, with a “vibrant blue” system, a copy of the game, and an all-important camera.
In case you’ve forgotten (and we can’t blame you), Invizimals is an interesting looking “augmented reality” game in which the camera is used to make magical creatures appear in your very living room. It looks like it might be quite cool. If you own a PSPgo though, you can’t play it, as the camera is only designed for the older, better PSP models.
The package costs $199.99, which really isn’t very bad. Might be worth picking up if you’re interested in this game.

It was only a matter of time, I suppose, before somebody picked up the US distribution rights for the Tekken movie. Anchor Bay Films has announced that they’ll be shuffling discs of the film into retailers in 2011.
It’s not a good film. I can’t even say for certain if it’s a mediocre film. Nick Chester was a fan of the fight scenes, which I can agree with. Meanwhile, the man in control of Tekken for Namco, Katsuhiro Harada, has advised fans of the games to skip it entirely — something I can also agree with.
Either way, you’ll no doubt be able to find it in the bargain bins a few months after it releases next year.
