Games of the week for 08/30/09: Sex Bomb Hitler edition 30 August 2009 at 4:00 pm by Admin

Games of the week for 08/30/09: Sex Bomb Hitler edition screenshot

I am pretty sure I’ve used this video in a previous post, but I can’t think of any new video to post this week. So, have a ridiculously old video from a meme that never quite caught on as well as it should, with Adolf Hitler singing "Sex Bomb" and it’s oh-so very funny and everybody laughs. How wonderful.

Speaking of the National Socialist Party, we played videogames this week. For crying out loud, hit the jump and find out which ones we did.

Bennett: Playing Cursed Mountain for review and loving it. It’s a perfect hybrid of everything I loved about Silent Hill 2 and Fatal Frame. I can’t wait to see where the story goes.

Yesterday I also played some Super Mario World with Niero and that was pretty awesome.

Razak: I’ve been attempting to 100 percent the Metroid Prime Trilogy which is going very, very slowly. I still love the games though. I remember the maps being much harder to navigate, but maybe that’s just me. I’ve also never understood the backtracking complaints leveled at the game. I love running through the world and I think going through it multiple times is not only something you do in Metroid games, but something that makes the world feel much more involved.

Gutierrez: Tossing on my PS3 fanboy hat for this one. Currently playing and WILL FINISH, Silent Hill Homecoming, Arkam Asylum, Bioshock (replaying on the PS3), Ratchet & Clank.

Also, I am so in love with the redesign and the awesomeness of the new hardware that I’ve decided to buy all multi platform games on PS3. Fed up with Xbox clunkiness and fail rate.

=)

Sarkar: I got Batman: Arkham Asylum on Thursday, and it’s all I’ve been playing. I keep doing awesome, bad-ass things that make me yell out, "I AM THE GODDAMN BATMAN," and that’s one of the many things I love about the game. The last thing I completed was the second Scarecrow encounter — damn, they’ve been grand.

Holmes: But R3y, what about when the 360 Slim comes out in a few months? Then the Wii Slim-Plus? Then the PS3 i-Slim-lite-plus? What will happen to your poor PS3 Slim then?

Did I mention I accept hand-me-downs?

As for games, got the updated GBA emulator for the Wii’s Homebrew Channel, and have been replaying Mother 3 and Rhythm Tengoku (and yes, I own the original carts for both. Don’t sick Nintendo on me). Unfortunately, the save files from both games didn’t transfer over to this new emulator, so I had to start from scratch. No big deal though, because both games are worth playing again from the beginning. This new emulator doesn’t seem to lag at all, makes the timing-sensitive gameplay of both titles much more manageable.

The big letdown for me this week was Final Fantasy: Dissidia. After reading SepherothX and Ckarasu’s inspired cblogs about the demo, I really thought I’d learn to enjoy it. So far, not so good. You know how in an RPG, your characters start off really weak, and can only do one or two different attacks? Yeah, Dissidia’s the same way, but it’s a fighting game. Just imagine playing Street Fighter II for two hours with Ryu before he learned how to do more than one punch and one kick (let alone a shoryuken) and you’ll get what I mean.

My other big purchase this week was Metroid Prime Trilogy. Great games. I still think Echoes is the best. And what’s with people bagging on the multiplayer? With four people, and a big TV, it’s totally fun. Don’t know what more you could have wanted it to do.

Also played some No More Heroes, and pretended it was No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle. I’m so jealous of those of you who will be playing NMH2 next week, ya bums. I expect a full report from all of you.

Finally, stuck with my regular Animal Crossing: City Folk, and Game Center CX 2 routines, but I managed to get myself to only play Animal Crossing every other day, instead of my regular daily habit. Recovery is a long road, but with a lot of time and energy, I think I can eventually break this habit.

Concelmo: I finished Shadow Complex and, yup, still think it’s pretty much the best game of the year. Also played Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for the Xbox 360. I was not going to share that information with the world, but I realized I have to embrace my love of terrible games. Yes, I played Half-Blood Prince, world. And yes it was horrible. But I loved it, okay? I LOVED IT!

Sterling: Played C.O.R.E on the DS. It’s terrible. Played Warriors Orochi 2 on the PSP. It’s alright. Played Batman: Arkham Asylum. It’s pretty great. Did nothing else with my time.

Ross: I haven’t really played anything because I’ve had Scotty over. Only thing I’ve had time for has been the new Layton game, which is amazing.

Cantler: Like Rey, I’ve also been playing Silent Hill: Homecoming, except I’m NOT going to finish it, because it suuuucks. instead I played Mainichi Issho, Super Puzzle Fighter, Lumines Supernova, MvC2 and a little Dead Rising. Someone please recommend to me a horror game that realizes rusty walls, locked doors and crippled character movement aren’t scary.

Villasenor: I didn’t get to play anything this week because school started.

Chester: Guitar Hero 5, Borderlands all week, and I can’t say anything about either of them right now.
Here’s what I can talk about: Katamari on the Android. Wow, what a pile of shit that is. (That’s official videogame blogger jargon right there.) Even at $2.99, I can’t recommend it to anyone. Unfortunately, my will is weak and I purchased it while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room. Insurance doesn’t cover crap mobile games, apparently.

+ Zombie Apocalypse features MC Hammer Achievment By Admin 30 August 2009 at 5:00 am and have No Comments

Zombie Apocalypse features MC Hammer Achievment screenshot

I’m well aware that this is actually not news, in fact you might even go as far as to say it is anti-news. If this post and a real news post touched the world might end. However, every Sunday at the Razak domicile is Hammer Time and when it’s Hammer Time all information about MC Hammer, baggy pants or Hammer’s Saturday morning cartoon, Hammerman, shall be posted. What info do we have for you today on MC Hammer?

Looks like he will be making an Achievement appearance in Zombie Apocalypse, the upcoming downloadable Smash TV/Left 4 Dead hybrid for the 360. The Achievement, entitled "Can’t Touch This," features a silhouette of Hammer in his trademark baggy pants and can be obtained by racking up a 100x multiplier in any game mode. Does this instantly make the game a must have? Yes, yes it does. Now, just for a minute, let’s all do the bump.

+ Playboy Playmates and Hugh Hefner promote Guitar Hero 5 By Admin 28 August 2009 at 9:00 pm and have No Comments

Playboy Playmates and Hugh Hefner promote Guitar Hero 5 screenshot

Hey, you remember those really annoying Risky Business commercials that Activision was overusing for Guitar Hero World Tour? Well, they’re back for Guitar Hero 5! This time, they feature not one, not two, not three, but ten Playboy Playmates as well as the king himself, Hugh Hefner.

Man, what the hell are these girls doing? They’re not even looking at a TV while playing. The two girls at the end aren’t even hitting the strum button! Watch for yourself after the break.

On a related note, I wonder how much ass Hugh has gotten in his life. It’s got to be in the thousands.

+ New Demon’s Souls screens are looking devilishly good By Admin 28 August 2009 at 1:40 pm and have No Comments

New Demon's Souls screens are looking devilishly good screenshot

Look, I’ve told you just about everything I know about Demon’s Souls, the upcoming PS3 action role-playing game. The next step from here is having us spend some quality time with the title so we can tell you what we think. That’s happening soon, as review code is headed to our office as we speak. So for now, enjoy some screenshots.

Demon’s Souls is one of those games that can pull off darkness, but still be visually stunning. As you’ll see in our gallery below, there’s almost always a source of light in the darkness, and that usually comes from someone kicking someone else’s ass. And then there’s that one picture that looks like a pile of wrongness, seen above. Nasty. What is that? Let me guess: it’s something you’ll have to fight.

October 6th. I’m ready. Look for our preview and review soon.

+ Infinite Space DS shows off more anime previews By Admin 28 August 2009 at 6:40 am and have No Comments

Infinite Space DS shows off more anime previews screenshot

I’m a sucker for anything Platinum Games makes, so Infinite Space is on my do want list, but even so I’m not sure if I am going to love it or not. What you’ll find after the break is the third in a series of four animated webisodes promoting the game (you can see the previous ones here and here). There’s nothing wrong with them (well, except the fact that the English voice acting is dubious in quality), but I really want to see more of the actual gameplay.

Anyway, Infinite Space comes out next spring. There’s no English language website just yet, but you can go poke around the Japanese one if you’re in the mood. Major anime studios GONZO and Studio I.G. are behind the production of these webisodes, and I usually love what they do, so I’m not sure why I’m feeling less than excited about them. Are they psyching you up for this RPG, or do you want to see gameplay like I do?

+ PAX 09: Bethesda showing off Brink, WET and more at PAX By Admin 27 August 2009 at 9:00 pm and have No Comments

PAX 09: Bethesda showing off Brink, WET and more at PAX screenshot

Bethesda is going to have a ton of awesome stuff at PAX this year. The biggest game they’ll have at the show, in my opinion, is the much talked about Brink. There’s going to be a demonstration of Brink to the public at the top of every hour throughout the weekend.

Bethesda will also have WET, Rogue Warrior, Doom II and Quake Arena for people to get their hands on. Plus, they’ll be giving away some sweet swag such as shirts, posters and more.

I’ve been really interested in seeing Brink ever since E3. The controls for the game are really interesting and I just need to see with my own eyes how exactly it’s going to work. Also, I am so getting a WET poster.

+ Spyborgs makes me afraid to go near any kind of docks By Admin 27 August 2009 at 5:30 pm and have No Comments

Spyborgs makes me afraid to go near any kind of docks screenshot

Capcom just released some new footage of its Wii-exclusive, Spyborgs, and now I’m afraid to go near any kind of dock area.

Living in Baltimore, I’m near some water and a fair number of "dock" areas. If this gameplay footage is any indication, docks are a breeding ground for mechanized warfare and explosions. I dig the Cheesecake Factory and Discovery Zone in Baltimore’s "Inner Harbor" area, but not at the expense of my well-being, thank you very much.

Spyborgs drops in September. This new footage is after the jump; watch it if you want your future dock experiences ruined.

+ F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn demo hits downloadable platforms By Admin 27 August 2009 at 1:20 pm and have No Comments

F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn demo hits downloadable platforms screenshot

Remember F.E.A.R. 2: Reborn? It’s the first single-player expansion for the super spooky shooter with too much punctuation, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin. We got a small taste of what the content will offer — mech action, stealth segments, etc., — through the smooth words of game producer Lucas Meyers earlier this month. But now you don’t need to lean on text to make your purchase decision: a demo for the expansion is available on both Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network.

The demo — a hearty 670 MBs on Xbox LIVE — is a short romp. The full content will feature four levels as well as a new perspective of the events after Alma goes nuts.  (Sorry, we don’t want to give away any significant plot stuff here.)

We haven’t had a chance to check this out quite yet, so we’re leaning on you guys to convince others to check this out (or not). How is it?

+ Sega Japan decides on 8 lovely ladies for Yakuza 4 promotion By Admin 27 August 2009 at 7:00 am and have No Comments

Sega Japan decides on 8 lovely ladies for Yakuza 4 promotion screenshot

Sega has been scouring Japan to find real-life girls to become virtual hostesses in the upcoming PS3 game Ryu ga Gotoku 4, better known here as Yakuza 4. Over a thousand girls originally entered, and Sega eventually narrowed down the selection to a few dozen, and finally 16 girls. The public then was allowed to vote on their favorites, and today we finally have the announcements.

Here’s the lovely ladies (pictured above) that will appear in the game that will probably never come out here. If you go to the official webpage and click on each of their images, you can watch video of their likenesses being scanned in for use in the upcoming game. The top seven will appear in the game, but the one on the bottom, Maiko Shirosaki, will be more of a promotional cheerleader, says Andria Sang.

My favorite is Noa Mizutani. Fist-bitingly cute, that one. I also like Rio. She works in the idol industry, so we may see more of her pop up. Who do you like?

+ Okamiden to be revealed in next week’s Famitsu By Admin 27 August 2009 at 4:20 am and have No Comments

Okamiden to be revealed in next week's Famitsu screenshot

There have been rumblings as of late, regarding something called "Okamiden," which Siliconera first discovered upon poking through some of Capcom’s trademarks. The company was found to own the rights to the word, and the popular belief and/or hope is that it could be an Okami sequel. "OMG what else could it be!?" you might ask.

Well, thanks to 7-Eleven (of all places) we’re about to find out next week. Andriasang reports that the company’s e-commerce site shows a listing for the upcoming September 17th issue of Famitsu, (which hits newsstands on September 3rd), with the contents of said issue marked only as "Okamiden."

With Clover studios sadly out of the picture, it’s hard to jump right on this and declare that it absolutely must be a new Okami title, especially since the word "Okami" itself is not altogether uncommon. It sure would be nice though, wouldn’t it? Looks like we’ll find out for sure on Septmber 3rd, and we’ll let you know regardless.
