Persona 2 PSP comes with an old-school music toggle 06 November 2010 at 3:00 am by Admin

While fans of old-school RPGs rejoiced when Atlus' enhanced port of the original Persona game hit the PlayStation Portable, a few of the more crotchety devotees complained about director/composer Shoji Meguro's rearranged musical score. It was a minor complaint to be sure, but it seems Atlus has taken it to heart for their work on the upcoming port of Persona 2: Innocent Sin, especially since they've declared that the port was being done for older fans of the series.

To that end, Persona 2: Innocent Sin PSP will have both the original and rearranged music available in-game, and players will be able to switch between soundtracks on the fly. Talk about bending over backwards to satisfy some folks, right?

+ Exclusive interview with Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen By Admin 05 November 2010 at 10:00 pm and have No Comments

Last week, I got the chance to catch up with Edmund McMillen, co-creator of Super Meat Boy. I asked him how he felt about the critical reception that the game has received so far, about our chances for a Super Meat Boy 2, and what he's working on right now. I also confront him about my one complaint about Super Meat Boy. It got tense.

His responses may shock you. There is also some potentially disturbing images of animals being slaughtered here, so watch out for that too. All around, this video isn't for the faint of heart. I hope that those of you with a strong stomach enjoy it. The rest of you, please don't watch it.

Not kidding.

+ Blizzard discusses putting Activision games on Battle.net By Admin 05 November 2010 at 9:00 pm and have No Comments

Everyone seems to be obsessing over the possibility of Activision adopting Battle.net for its games. It's an interesting notion, but Blizzard hasn't really spoken one way or the other on the topic. Perhaps this Gamasutra interview with Battle.net project director Greg Canessa will give us something to go on.

"Bobby Kotick and all the folks at Activision are very, very supportive of Battle.net and what we're doing," he explains. "Having said that, as you know, Blizzard and Activision are really two separate entities, and we really do our own thing."

"There are huge opportunities in front of us with new games, with licensing opportunities, with movies, and other things we have going on, and the risk is that we get distracted off of what we're really good at, which is making kick-ass entertainment experience. So, for today, it's Blizzard games."

"Some day," Canessa continues, "maybe we add other titles in there. Who knows? When we really feel like we've really delivered that kick-ass set of experiences for Blizzard games, and we feel like we've grown the team — and you've heard some of my challenges growing the team and finding the talent — when I've got that sustainability, when we really feel like we've got that dialed in and nailed down, you know, who knows what the future holds."

TL;DR: Activision games may one day support Battle.net, but not anytime soon. The more you know!

+ Dtoid (the show): Kinected Dead Space Vs. Rising Epic Trejo By Admin 05 November 2010 at 8:40 pm and have No Comments

We went back to the old format for this episode, and went through as much news as possible. I'm surprised that I was actually able to speak some words, as I'd been up for over 24 hours with almost no sleep. I blame you, awesome Epic Mickey event.

We're got a sneak peak of my impressions from that game, plus an exclusive, never before seen scoop on The Fight: Lights Out direct from Danny Trejo himself. We also do a lot of other stuff; there's a recap of our Kinect reviews, Tara impersonates a Microsoft employee, we look at the game-to-film adaptations of Dead Rising and Silent Hill, muse about Kinect and "real" controllers working together, and much more.

There's also a new contest to win some very special Super Mario Birthday, Super Meat Boy, and Bit.Trip pries. All you have to do to enter is subscribe to us on Youtube or iTunes (in HD or large sizes). Tell 'em the Boogaloo Shrimp sent ya!

+ Microsoft not happy over the $2,000 Kinect hacking reward By Admin 05 November 2010 at 8:00 pm and have No Comments

Microsoft-not-happy-over-the-2-000-kinect-hacking-reward-header

Kinect launched this past week and like any new tech product, people want to hack the thing. Specifically, Adafruit Industries is looking for people to create an open source driver for Kinect and is offering a $2,000 reward to the first developer that does it.

To the surprise of no one, Microsoft isn't all too happy over these shenanigans and stated that they have "built in numerous hardware and software safeguards designed to reduce the chances of product tampering." Microsoft goes on to say that they will be working with law enforcement to keep to keep the Kinect "tamper-resistant."

I give it about a month before we can use the Kinect on a PC.
