Usually it’s advisable to avoid anything with “crazy” in the title, as it usually indicates a game that’s trying way too hardy to be zany. Fortunately, Crazy Hamster is actually pretty decent, and it’s available for nothing thanks to OpenFeint’s FreeGameoftheDay offer.
It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, being an evolution of the Lemming’s concept, but it’s pretty fun nonetheless. Simply make sure your hamster doesn’t fall foul of the many traps. It starts quite slow, but can get pretty frantic as you douse fires, build bridges, and place sailboats in order to keep the furry little bastard safe.
Check it out or don’t, it won’t cost you anything to try.

2360: Battle for Cydonia is a really fun little shooter that makes good use of the iPhone’s unique interface. It’s free thanks to the freeappaday initiative and it’s definitely worth snapping up while it remains gratis. Rather than try and recreate twin sticks, Cydonia’s little mech walks along a line that you trace on the screen, and shoots in two directions determined by where you tap. Simple but effective.
The only real downside to Cydonia is its somewhat slow pace, but it’s well crafted, looks good, and should provide shooter fans with a solid little treat. This one is a highly recommended download, so make sure you get it!
Namco Bandai is celebrating Pac-Man’s 30th anniversary by releasing a game for the iPhone/iPod touch that’s absolutely nothing like the original!
Pac-Match Party is a match-3 puzzle game where players will match things (three of them) in order to have Pac-Man chomp through a maze to escape ghosts. A similar version of the game has also been released as a Flash game, which you can play here. But not on your iPhone, because Apple and Adobe are in a fight or something.
The game will run you $1.99 and features 30 levels, with an iPad version coming later.

SemiRPG is one of those games you’ll either get or won’t. Its premise is similar to Half-Minute Hero, except it focuses purely on the roleplaying aspect and less on puzzles. You accept quests, fight monsters, level up and gain skills all within minutes, boiling the concept of the roleplaying game down to its barest components.
It’s kind of repetitive and silly, but as a freebie it’s well worth checking out just for the fun of it. You may get hooked or you may not, but you might as well check it out and see. Plus it’s rather cute, and that’s worth bonus points whatever the weather.
The most excellent Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is now available for the iPhone (and other iThings), and it’s only $4.99. Woah!
Already have it on the DS? WiiWare? That’s cool, why not get it again on a device where you can play it and maybe have a high-profile court case interrupted by a telemarketer? The iPhone version also features “a new flick interface” that will let you manage, cross-reference, and organize evidence with your finger.
At only five bucks, it’s almost silly not to pick this one up on the App Store. Which is what I’m going to go to right now, actually.
Today’s free app is an absolute doozy. Your humble author is not a huge fan of tower defense games, but BioDefense: Zombie Outbreak is a fantastic little game that manages to make the genre seem far more exciting and fun than it usually is. Of course, being full of zombies helps.
The general premise is the same as your average tower defender, with waves of enemies being held off by turrets and upgrades, but the focus on fluctuating resource management and careful expansion, not to mention the progressively more dangerous and demented zombie attackers, makes Zombie Defense stand out from the crowd.
It’s totally free as of right now, so whether your tend to like these games or not, it’s highly recommended you check it out. It’s definitely one of the best freebies going at the moment, and is worth paying for on a good day, so snap it up while you can!
The ever lovable Jordan Devore discovered the other day that Adult Swim used a quote of his for the TV ad for Give Up, Robot. After seeing the ad, I decided to check out the game and to finally play Robot Unicorn Attack. Yeah, I’m six months late on that train. I know.
Anyway, Robot Unicorn Attack is like that high you get after not sleeping for three days straight. It’s absolutely awesome and the first thing I thought after finally pulling myself away from the game was how awesome it would be on the iPhone.
Looks like my magical unicorn inspired wishes are coming true as Robot Unicorn Attack will be out on the App Store on June 1 for just $2.99. Hell. Yes.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4, originally scheduled for release next month, has today been delayed by Sega. Hardly surprising, considering the release was creeping ever closer with only leaks and speculation to promote it. The game has now been slated for “late” release this year.
“SEGA is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world, and wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible,” states Sega. “With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010.”
iPhone users at least got a bit of good news to go with the bad. Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has now been officially confirmed for Apple’s portable products. Further details on this release will be coming soon.
Whether this delay is in response to some negative comments following the leaks (most notably the infamous “mine cart” section) probably won’t ever be confirmed, but hopefully the delays will lead to some positive development time. What do you reckon? Is the delay a good sign of quality control, or an ill portent?

Since my usual App-hunting grounds are failing me lately, I’m turning to Donut Games yet again for one of its older, perpetually free games. Today’s tip-off is Traffic Rush, yet another of Donut’s throwaway casual titles that’s well worth keeping in your pocket for a dull wait at the train station.
The aim of the game is simple — direct traffic through a crossroads and avoid collisions. Swipe cars to speed them up, tap them to make them stop. Really easy stuff, but of course the game gets progressively harder as the second tick along, with eight lanes full of terminally stupid drivers to keep an eye on.
It’s good, it’s free, and while it won’t command an hour of your time, it’ll fill those minutes when nothing else is.
Time for some good old fashioned Sony logic, folks! The PS3 platform holder has earned itself a reputation of being arrogant with years of high prices and awful accompanying PR statements. However, the company believes that it’s not arrogant anymore, because Apple exists.
“I don’t think we are arrogant anymore. I think we can name a company that is a fruit that is in the news a lot about their arrogance. I think they have taken the mantle from us, if we were ever arrogant,” says Sony Australia’s Michael Ephraim. ”I don’t think we were arrogant. We know there are a lot of challenges in this space, but we’re very comfortable, especially with 3D across the entire Sony group. There’s no company that can deliver that like we can.”
I’ve never heard of Apple claiming it was the market leader when it wasn’t, telling customers to take out a second job to afford its products, claiming Rumble was a last-gen feature or making fun of the world’s largest third party publisher when it threatened to pull support for the PS3, but I might be living in a strange alternate history where Germany won the war and humans evolved from dinosaurs.
Not that Apple isn’t arrogant, far from it. But acting the prick isn’t suddenly alright just because you found somebody who’s worse.
