Guillermo del Toro’s inSANE is planned as a trilogy 13 December 2010 at 12:00 am by Admin

Did you catch the teaser for inSANE, the new project from THQ and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro? It aired during the Spike Video Game Awards this weekend and didn’t tell us a whole lot that we didn’t already know. The partnership between THQ and del Toro hasn’t exactly been kept a secret or anything so, apart from some tentacles to demonstrate that the game has creepy intentions, the reveal failed to reveal much of anything.

A press release issued by THQ this morning sheds some additional light, notably that inSANE is planned to consist of three games. In addition to the games, del Toro and THQ will also be collaborating on “potential transmedia projects surrounding the inSANE games.” So you can probably expect there to be some sort of tie-in, straight-to-dvd movie or something I’m sure.

I like del Toro. He’s one of the more creative and daring filmmakers in his industry and I would like to believe that he is an artist who can work as effectively in the medium of videogames. But until we see more, something which could literally take years, my enthusiasm is tepid at best.

+ Love Zombie makes me long for the zombie apocolypse By Admin 12 December 2010 at 7:00 pm and have No Comments

Love Zombie makes me long for the zombie apocolypse screenshot

There are a lot of reasons to hope for a zombie apocalypse; paper money would lose its worth, no one would have to go to work, and if a few of your least favorite friends get zombified, then you’d have a guilt-free excuse to bonk them on the head with a sledgehammer.

Those are some of the usual zombie fantasies. You’ll notice that “everyone will be cuter” is not amongst them. That’s what makes this Love Zombie commercial so special. It gives us an alternate look at the zombie curse, one where the undead aren’t miserable, rotten, flesh eating monsters; they’re patty-cake loving pop stars with winning smiles and oversized overalls.

If that’s Armageddon, then sign me the f*ck up.

+ Dtoid (the show) week 9: Yippie Kie-eye-ay Mother Trucker By Admin 12 December 2010 at 6:00 pm and have No Comments

Dtoid (the show) week 9: Yippie Kie-eye-ay Mother Trucker screenshot

Some times things don’t go as planned. Bruce Willis might drop the f-bomb on your nationally broadcast basketball game, Boglins might take over your live stream, or worse, your every-other-daily internet television show might get railroaded by technical difficulties at the last minute. One of those three things is the cause behind the lack of show that we had on Friday. I’m not going to tell you which it is, but I will tell you that if all goes well, we’ll have two episodes posted on Monday.

Still, we had got to post two pretty long, pretty good episodes of The Destructoid Show last week. Put together, and they’re over a half an hour, and are arguably more fun to watch than the VGA’s.

Or am I being too bold?

You be the judge. Both episodes from last week can be seen below. If you think the show sucks, let us know why. If you it like it, then why not go ahead and subscribe to us YouTube or iTunes (in HD or large sizes). You could win a prize.

For real.

+ Watch Captain Viridian pwn Super Meat Boy By Admin 12 December 2010 at 9:00 am and have No Comments

Watch Captain Viridian pwn Super Meat Boy screenshot

It was really cool to see the Pink Knight (from Castle Crashers) and the Ninja (from N+) in the XBLA version of the game, but they didn’t play all that differently from Meat Boy. More so, they didn’t make the excruciating task of getting a 100% on the game (and getting that final unlockable character) all that much easier.

That’s why I’m not that sad to see them swapped out for these new characters in the PC version of the game.  As you can see in the video above, Captain Viridian (from VVVVVV) is a total cheater, and it’s awesome. Teamed with Mr. Minecraft (and his similarly game-breaking abilities), I figure that I might finally be able to score that 100% completed bonus.

Or not. Seriously, I don’t think it’s possible for my brain to ever guide my hands towards making the right movements to beat the dark world version of Chapter 6. The brain simply wont abide.

+ Because Street Fighter/Sesame Street should be together By Admin 12 December 2010 at 8:00 am and have No Comments

Because Street Fighter/Sesame Street should be together screenshot

You may think that turning Sesame Street characters into Street Fighter characters doesn’t make much sense as you look over this collection of Sesame Street Fighter stickers, but for some reason it just works. Bert and Ernie as Ryu and Ken? Duh. Cookie Monster as E. Honda? Clearly. And Big Bird as Sagat? I think he’d totally agree with that.

Obviously these things are so random and obscure that they make a great gift for any five-year-old Street Fighter prodigy. We all know you’ve got a little brother or sister who has been kicking your ass at Super Street Fighter IV. Here’s your chance to show there’s no hard feelings that despite their younger age and inability to write clearly you’re OK with him/her kicking your ass every time you play the game.

Each sticker $2.41 and they’re about 4″ tall.

+ SSX: Deadly Descents: 3 screens, a ridiculous description By Admin 12 December 2010 at 3:30 am and have No Comments

SSX: Deadly Descents: 3 screens, a ridiculous description screenshot

You may have seen the big reveal of SSX: Deadly Descents on the VGAs last night and thought to yourself, “That video was cool, but I wish I had at least three screens and some sort of description of the game.” Destructoid to the rescue! Below you will find three new screenshots from the newly launched official page.

That page also has a brief description of what the game is actually all about. In SSX: Deadly Descents, which is officially revamping the franchise, you’ll join a team of snowboarders who attempt to tackle the largest and most dangerous mountains in the world. But remember this is an SSX game so “in SSX: Deadly Descents the first goal is to survive. The second, in true SSX fashion, is to look good doing it.” It may kill you, but doing that triple backflip is really important.

P.S. Could they have made this look anymore like some Call of Duty game?

+ Don’t forget, Amnesia going half-price through Monday By Admin 11 December 2010 at 11:00 pm and have No Comments

Don't forget, Amnesia going half-price through Monday screenshot

You may not remember your name, or where you’re from, or why you’re fighting to save the world, but you must remember to buy Amnesia: The Dark Descent on Steam before Monday, because it’s on sale at half-price, pegging it at an incredibly appealing price of $9.99.

For less than ten bucks you’re getting one of the scariest horror games in years, an indie title that outdoes titles that cost six times that much. So go, get it.

+ Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on PC won’t get anymore DLC By Admin 11 December 2010 at 7:00 pm and have No Comments

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit on PC won't get anymore DLC screenshot

PC gamers, the world is not always your friend. Actually, the world in general probably doesn’t care all too much, but EA isn’t being your friend. The incredibly awesome Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is getting plenty of DLC in the future, but you won’t be receiving any of it.

A member of the development team posted that none of the DLC coming out for the console versions of the game will be landing on the PC. This, the developer explains, is because they have a limited budget and not enough resources to produce DLC for every platform. However, he does add that “we do have more updates and content on the way for PC players.”

Not sure what that means since one would assume that more content would have to be downloaded and that’s just a reverse way of saying downloadable content, which in turn is simply writing out DLC. Whatever, he’s saying it doesn’t look like the PC version of the game will be seeing much love from here on out.

Confirmed: No future DLC support for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit for PC [Big Download]

Uncharted 3 out November 1, 2011 and looks awesome screenshot

Surprise, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception looks great. Like, about as mind-blowing as you’d expect for the follow up to one of 2009’s best games.

Naughty Dog revealed the game earlier this week along with a teaser trailer, but this full-length spot from the Spike Video Game Awards should really get your blood going.

Oh, and you might be interested in knowing that it’s out November 1, 2011. Hey, 11 months isn’t that long of a wait, right?
