HAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! WHO WOULD BUY IT!? WHAT IDIOT WOULD BUY IT!? HAHA! HAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Asset liquidation group Gerbsman Partners revealed through a liquidation document that Emergent, makers of the engine that powered (and we use that word loosely) Oblivion, Fallout 3 and Warhammer Online, sustained operation losses of over $30 million since 2005.

Gamebryo is among the assets now being sold, with a closing date of December 10 for bids. Now if you’ll excuse me …

+ ‘Comprehensive’ New Vegas patch coming soon(ish) By Admin 08 November 2010 at 2:20 am and have No Comments

'Comprehensive' New Vegas patch coming soon(ish) screenshot

Bethesda has promised that a “comprehensive” new patch for Fallout: New Vegas is in the final testing stages and will be coming to PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime over the next few weeks. The patch is scheduled to fix many of the game’s biggest glitches, as reported by users.

The last patch that Bethesda released for PC had over 200 fixes in it relating to scripting/questing issues. This new patch will fix, among other things, the Xbox 360 save file problem that a number of console gamers have suffered.

The PC version is getting an incremental patch between now and the release of the major fix, to quickly patch up corrupted saves, companion bugs, Havok problems and NVIDIA performance.

Dear Bethesda: If you stopped using Gamebryo, you could have taken a vacation right now.

+ Destructoid (the show): Fallout New Vegas BOOBIES! ^__^ By Admin 27 October 2010 at 10:00 pm and have No Comments

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sjDmOQksOg

Pardon my confusion as I continue to wake up from the epic nap I just took. I haven't even had time to watch this episode yet, but I assure you it's chock full of awesome awesomeness. In fact, you may be pleased to hear that boobies are the unofficial theme.

I talk a little bit about Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light's new DLC, while Holmes covers the recent estrogen shot given to Call of Duty: Black Ops. I put my spin on Fallout: New Vegas's recent nudity patch, and Holmes discusses Cave Story's new DSiWare trailer. Then later on, Holmes rants about El Shaddai and No More Heroes, while I brace myself for our new overlord.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go watch me make an ass of myself.

Bucket usage in Fallout: New Vegas is about to increase by, oh, let's just go with one-hundred percent.

As shown in this nifty video (via Reddit), essentially anything you can fit inside of a pot can be stolen, even if people are nearby. You simply fill the pot up with valuables, drag it away to a safe location, and grab the loot. The best part is, this isn't a glitch.

Using a Stealth Boy may be easier, but this is certainly more entertaining.

+ Fallout: New Vegas gets its obligatory nude patch By Admin 26 October 2010 at 5:40 pm and have No Comments

It took a full week, but a brave soul has finally stepped up to the plate and given Fallout: New Vegas the patch it's truly needed since it released — the obligatory nudity patch! Now you can look at spinning demon heads and phantom keyboard with a massive parping boner in your soiled Scooby Doo underpants.

Nudity mods are part and parcel of any PC game, from Left 4 Dead to The Sims. Where there are mod tools, breasts shall soon follow. I'm not normally one to judge these things, but when it comes to New Vegas … I mean, who on Earth would want to see those creepy, malformed freaks in a sexual light? Every NPC in New Vegas is scary and should never be seen without clothes.

Takes all sorts, I suppose.

+ Obsidian defends Fallout: New Vegas’ ‘impressive’ tech By Admin 22 October 2010 at 1:20 pm and have No Comments

Outside of its glitches, Fallout: New Vegas has often been criticized by gamers for its outdated graphics and animation. Obsidian designer Chris Avellone, however, has defended the game's GECK engine, saying that it's an impressive piece of RPG tech in spite of its visual quality.

"One thing I like about GECK is that when it comes to creating an open-world environment, like we've done for New Vegas, it's pretty impressive and took care of a lot of what we needed — and we have experience with working with an open-world engine before," urges Avellone. "Being able to see that technology and see how [Bethesda] structured all of the data was really important for us as a studio and we thought the GECK was pretty solid, even though it's been through a couple of iterations and is a long standing piece of technology."

"I'm not going to say it's the prettiest engine out there — it doesn't have the best animation and there's certain limitations to the facial structures you can build with the characters. But at the same time it allowed us to create really fun quests, really cool characters and a really huge world that was fun to explore. So from an RPG perspective that's what I want."

Say what you want about GECK, Gamebryo, and New Vegas' issues (I certainly have), Avellone has a lot of my respect for putting gameplay above graphics and caring about crafting a fun experience rather than a bunch of shallow eye candy. If only other RPGs released this year could say the same for themselves.

+ Fallout Online (and beta) arriving in 2012 By Admin 22 October 2010 at 11:20 am and have No Comments

Interplay has confirmed in Edge magazine that its massively multiplayer game set in the Fallout universe is due for release in 2012. A beta is planned for around that time as well, for those among us who are desperate to kick the crap out of Radscorpions with a friend.

“I can’t say too much. What I can say is that everyone who is registered is getting a newsletter every five or six weeks,” says Interplay president Eric Caen. "The content is not a typical newsletter with a lot of technical information; it’s letters from NPCs about what they’re experiencing. We’re giving a lot of hints about the future of the game. We have a beta scheduled for 2012, with the commercial launch in the second half of 2012.

“We have 90 people working on it. Even in January 2009, you were already able to move across the world.”

The Fallout MMO has been a long time coming, and I dare say that warring with Bethesda hasn't made things quicker for Interplay. I'm still worried about how this will turn out, but we've got a long ways to wait before we see it for ourselves.

+ Interplay: Bethesda refused Fallout MMO, wants it for free By Admin 22 October 2010 at 8:00 am and have No Comments

Despite both working on the Fallout universe, things between Interplay and Bethesda are rather sour, mostly thanks to Bethesda suing Interplay for not producing a Fallout MMO in time. According to Interplay's Eric Caen, Bethesda never even wanted the MMO, and is now only suing his company in order to get it for free.

“Hervé [Caen] started negotiations with Bethesda to sell Fallout to them," he says. “My brother said: ‘If you want the full IP, the value of it is $50 million.’ They said: ‘No way. Why $50 million?’ We said: ‘Because the MMOG strength of this universe is huge.’ Bethesda said: ‘We don’t want that. Let’s buy everything else but the MMOG. Do the MMOG.’

“They said that Interplay had to start development and by a certain time we had to have a full game in development. They bought everything, but left Interplay with the licence to do the MMOG — under certain conditions, thinking that Interplay would never fulfil these conditions. But Interplay did."

Despite Caen's claims that Interplay did what it was obliged to do, the developer of Fallout 3 has pressed ahead with a lawsuit: “Spring 2009 — this is public information — Bethesda sends a termination letter to Interplay, saying: ‘You did not fulfil your obligation.’ So all the litigation is about that. I think Bethesda, off the back of Fallout 3’s success, realized that Hervé was probably right about the value. They said: ‘OK, how can we get that without paying?’”

It's always sad when developers throw litigation at each other, because it stops them concentrating on games, which is really all a developer should be doing. I'm sad Bethesda felt the need to sue Interplay, and I'm sad the two companies couldn't have worked together without getting into a slapfight.

I'm saddest most of all, however, because I have a feeling that this Fallout MMO business isn't going to end well.

+ The first Fallout: New Vegas patch is out on PC By Admin 21 October 2010 at 8:40 am and have No Comments

The-first-fallout-new-vegas-patch-is-out-header

The first of what will likely be many updates has appeared for Fallout: New Vegas, Obsidian's buggy-but-brilliant post-apocalyptic roleplaying game. The first patch is for PC, and while it won't fix everything, it's stitched together a few of the game's open wounds.

The update fixes "quest and scripting issues" and will automatically download to your game. As of this time, there's no news on an Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 patch, but Bethesda has said it plans to support the consoles as quickly as possible.

It seems that Bethesda has its work cut out for it if it wants to fix New Vegas' veritable army of problems. As badly as some of these fixes are needed, however, I think we can agree on one thing — Doc Mitchell's spinning mutant freak head needs to stay!
