A game for real men: 101 Shark Pets screenshot

101 Shark Pets is a game for those that are just sick of all the other pet games out there. Puppies? Kittens? Dolphins? Those animals are for LITTLE GIRLS! Thankfully, developer Teyon has heard the cries of real men and brought us a pet game with nothing but sharks. SHARKS!

You’ll be able to interact with your pet shark in multiple ways. Feed them, play with them, train them — you can even enter them into beauty show competitions … manly beauty show competitions. There will also be seven mini-games for you to play with the sharks.

101 Shark Pets will be out for the DSiWare on July 5 for 500 DSi Points.

+ "Rampage" Jackson getting his own videogame? By Admin 30 June 2010 at 7:20 am and have No Comments

Mixed martial arts fighter and actor Quinton “Rampage” Jackson may be getting his own videogame soon. Rampage MMA, Jackson’s multimedia company he started back in 2007, recently filed a trademark for “Street Soldier: The Video Game.”

Rampage MMA had previously trademarked “Rampage Street Soldier” for use with sporting events, loose leaf binders, computers games, and paper lunch sacks, along with a bunch of other awesome stuff. I mean seriously… paper lunch sacks with a big picture of Jackson’s face on them sounds awesome.

Jackson is an avid gamer himself, telling ESPN that he had two of the original Xbox consoles hooked up in his car so he could play the original Halo on the go. The MMA fighter himself had appeared in THQ’s UFC Undisputed title; more recently he appeared as B.A. Baracus in the recent A-Team film reboot.

+ Alien vs. Predator ‘Bughunt’ map pack coming July 7 By Admin 30 June 2010 at 7:00 am and have No Comments

Alien vs. Predator 'Bughunt' map pack coming July 7 screenshot

Hope you haven’t traded it in yet, because Sega has announced that it’s releasing its second downloadable content for Aliens vs. Predator on July 7.

Called the “Bughunt Map Pack,” the DLC will contain two new multiplayer maps for “Deathmatch,” “Predator Hunt,” “Infestation,” “Species Deathmatch,” “Mixed Species Deathmatch,” and Domination. Also in the pack will be two more maps designed specifically for the “Survival” mode.

Sega says the maps will included “environment hazards and new weather effects.” Then again, it also says that detailed descriptions of the maps can be found on its official website, but the last thing it mentions is an Alien and Predator “galactic dance off” in PlayStation Home. So I’m not sure if I can believe them.

The “Bughunt” pack will be available for $6.99 on PC and PlayStation 3, which translates to 560 MS Points for the Xbox 360. You thinking about picking it up?

+ Drum Studio is only 80 Microsoft Points By Admin 30 June 2010 at 6:20 am and have No Comments

Drum Studio is only 80 Microsoft Points screenshot

Drum Studio is an Xbox 360 game/application that lets you play and record your own drum songs, and then edit and tweak performances. It’s a musical tool that uses your Guitar Hero or Rock Band kits as controllers for song making.

You can jam with the software’s included sounds, picking from over 320 drums. And like any good musical tool, you can go back in and layer tracks — multitracking, the kids call it. If you’re musically minded, this one should already be on your download list. But even those that aren’t very musical should still get this.

Here’s the kicker: Drum Studio is only 80 Microsoft Points. That’s $1. One dollar to give a ton more functionality to those silly plastic drums? What’s there to think about? Go! It’s on the Xbox Live Marketplace now.

+ Criterion’s Need for Speed going on a US tour By Admin 30 June 2010 at 6:00 am and have No Comments

Criterion's Need for Speed going on a US tour screenshot

It was pretty much a given that Criterion was going to knock it out of the park with its take on the Need for Speed franchise. Based on what I played and saw at E3, that’s more or less confirmed — Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit looks as awesome as it plays.

Don’t believe me? If you live in one of the seven cities Electronic Arts is taking Hot Pursuit on tour to leading up to the game’s launch, you can try it out yourself. The tour kicks off in New York City on July 14 at the Manhattan Classic Car Club with DJ Z-Trip dropping beats, in case playing a rad videogame wasn’t enough for you.

The tour will make its away across the United States, hitting “hot” local venues and featuring hip-hop and rock musicians, along with exotic cars, like the one-of-a-kind Lamborghini cop car displayed at E3. Hit the jump for the full schedule, and head over to the official site for more details and info on how to attend.

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit hits shelves on November 16.

  • New York, July 14
  • Chicago, Aug. 5
  • Seattle, Sept. 4
  • San Francisco, Sept. 11
  • Austin, Oct. 7
  • Miami, Oct. 21
  • Los Angeles, Nov. 16

+ Rumor: New Tomb Raider set for holiday 2011 release By Admin 30 June 2010 at 5:20 am and have No Comments

Rumor: New Tomb Raider set for holiday 2011 release screenshot

Sort of a “no duh” rumor here, but Eurogamer is reporting that sources are indicate a new Tomb Raider retail game will hit shelves during holiday 2011.

The source indicates that Crystal Dynamics is working exclusive on the Tomb Raider franchise, with the next game set to hit PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. Rumors of a new Tomb Raider game have been swirling for awhile, with a leaked document providing details (and images) of a potential series “reboot.”

This summer Crystal Dymanics will release the awesome-looking download title, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, for PC, Xbox LIVE Arcade, and PlayStation Network. The developer has repeatedly said the game is not part of the main Tomb Raider series, but has kept quiet on plans for the next title.

+ Visceral hiring folks for Dante’s Inferno sequel? By Admin 30 June 2010 at 4:00 am and have No Comments

Visceral hiring folks for Dante's Inferno sequel? screenshot

Considering the relative success of Dante’s Inferno (both commercially and for the most part, critically), it’s not surprising to guess that Visceral Games might be working on a follow up. But a job listing making the rounds now makes it all the more obvious.

The studio is currently seeking a level designer for “the sequel to a major new IP at the award-winning Visceral Games.” More hints that it’s a Dante’s Inferno follow-up? “The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre.” Yup, that sounds about right.

Since prior to the game’s release, the game’s producer Jonathan Knight had openly discussed that he had ideas for a sequel. In fact, from what I could gather while doing early previews of the title, it had already been mapped out or at least seriously discussed.

As a fan of the first game (I know, I may be in the minority here), I’m looking forward to seeing Visceral taking it to the next level. “Purgatorio” anyone?

+ Move support you can’t use yet added to PlayStation 3 By Admin 30 June 2010 at 3:20 am and have No Comments

Move support you can't use yet added to PlayStation 3 screenshot

With its latest firmware update, Sony added quite a few new features to the PlayStation 3. Video editing, new sharing features, and… PlayStation Move support?

Quietly snuck into the update is an option to calibrate the upcoming Motion controller, which is set to launch later this year. So what are we supposed to do with it now? There are a few options. You can wait patiently for Move’s September 19 release. Or you can stand in front of your PS3 with a Wii controller or TV remote and play “make believe.”

Good on Sony, preparing for the future. This isn’t the first time it’s been so forward thinking with its updates — it had previously prepped its software for 3D games months before any were released. That’s calling “being on the ball.”

+ Sonic Colors screens have Sonic and colors in them By Admin 30 June 2010 at 3:00 am and have No Comments

Sonic Colors screens have Sonic and colors in them screenshot

Sonic Colors has been a surprise, to say the least. Before Sonic the Hedgehog 4 has even released, this game popped up out of nowhere and is actually stealing a considerable slice of spotlight for being a 3D Sonic game that actually looks kind of good. Having played it at E3, I can confirm it certainly looks hopeful.

Of course, all Sonic games look hopeful after one or two levels, so we’ll have to play the full game to see. In the meantime, here are a collection of screenshots, some of which may even be new! They features both Sonic and colors, so you’ve got a double bill of visual fun right there. Good for you!

+ White Knight Chronicles coming to the PSP By Admin 30 June 2010 at 1:00 am and have No Comments

White Knight Chronicles coming to the PSP screenshot

Want more news about games the Japanese will be getting so you can salivate and pray that the gaming gods will shine their benevolent light on the project for international releases? Your wish is my command. Famitsu’s new issue has a page devoted to a White Knight Chronicles game for PSP.

The vigilant folks at andriasang have translated said page, and the contents suggest some major changes in store for the series. The story told in the PS3 games comes to a conclusion in the soon-to-be released White Knight Chronicles 2 and the PSP title sounds like it will be a completely separate affair, as suggested by the large text at the bottom of the page which reads, ”And then, to a new world.”

I’m interested and always up for an excuse to flick on the old PSP. I don’t really have my hopes up that this one will come to the US, though. Hell, I’m starting to get nervous about the odds of White Knight Chronicles 2 making the leap. Am I being overly pessimistic here?
